Error: Please define a 'form_id' setting_name on the settings sheet and specify the unique form id for the form in ODK apllication designer

Dear group

I want to edit my forms in ODK application designer, I installed everything
ODK application designer. It opens nicely. The forms are running nicely on
my tablet so they are ok only I do not like the appearance

In ODK application designer I go to XLSX converter to upload my form file,
I choose my file and then I get the message: Error: Please define a
'form_id' setting_name on the settings sheet and specify the unique form id
for the form

anybody knows what I am doing wrong?

Regards
Gertjan

Dear All

found one problem in orginal ODK forms the settings are in colums while the
ODK application designer wants the settngs in rows.bit now I get the next
error application designer does not accept filtering in my choice list.

Is there not a simple tool to edit my form. i.e to change the fonts, change
colours and alignment of the text?

regards
gertjan

It sounds like you need to include the form_id setting on your settings
worksheet in your XLSX file. I've attached an example for you to
reference. You will notice that the form_id on the worksheet is set to the
same name as the XLSX file. If there are still issues, feel free to
include your XLSX file.

Application Designer is a 2.0 tool.
It is not for use with ODK Collect or XLSXForm.

··· -------------------

The ODK 2.0 XLSX format is different from the ODK 1.0 XLSX format.

You cannot start with an ODK 1.0 XLSX file and expect it to work in the ODK
2.0 Application Designer (or vice-versa).

If you use the 2.0 tools, the only documentation on the ODK 2.0 XLSX file
format is under the XLSXConverter heading (e.g., for the current release,
it is here:
https://opendatakit.org/use/2_0_tools/odk-application-designer-2-0-rev126/odk-xlsxconverter-2-0-rev126/

Hi Clarice and Mitch,

I am having the same problem as in the OP. XLSXConverter returns an error
of:

"Error: Please define a 'form_id' setting_name on the settings sheet and
specify the unique form id for the form"

I have verified that I have a form_id row in the settings tab, and that it
matches the name of the .xlsx file. In fact, I copied and pasted the
settings sheet used in exampleForm.xlsx posted on the ODK website and in
Clarice's post, and I get the same error message. I've attached my .xlsx
file if that would help -- any suggestions you have for getting around this
problem would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I've attached a modified version of the form that should fix all of your
issues. The things that I corrected on this form are the following.

  1. Renamed the setting worksheet to settings.
  2. Removed an end screen on line 26 as there was no matching begin
screen. Also, begin screen and end screen go under the clause column and
    not the type column.
  3. Changed the data_values on the choices worksheet to text. Currently,
the select prompts only work with text. We are working on a different
    prompt that would support integers.

If you have more questions or issues, let us know.

Hello Clarice;
i have the same problem here; i have verified too that i have form_id row in the settings worksheet; and that it matches the name of the .xlsx . I have copied ur file Test2.xlsx and i get the same error message.
Thank you a lot

Hi,

The form that you referenced is outdated. I have uploaded the Test2.xlsx (14.3 KB)
example with the correct column headings. Also, I have added the missing table_id field. Let me know if you find other problems.
