ODK Aggregate v1.5 Beta

odk-aggregate

(Yaw Anokwa) #1

You may not have noticed, but since October of last year, @ggalmazor has been working behind the scenes to make sweeping changes to Aggregate's code repository, build infrastructure, and developer documentation. He has been doing this work to prepare Aggregate for regular releases that, as shown with Collect and Briefcase, makes for a happy community!

He has also fixed the infamous, but infrequent, infinite refresh bug and added support for viewing the audit file that tracks how enumerators navigate through a form in Collect. Oh, and he's added a brand new Aggregate VM for good measure. Amazing, right?

Because there have been a lot of changes to how we build and ship Aggregate, we really need your help to make sure it works great. Please download this beta, try it, and report the issues you find below. The release will be delayed until all reported issues with the beta are fixed.

As always, if you have an ongoing data collection campaign, please do not install the beta and put your data at risk! Instead, set up a new instance on App Engine or try installing Aggregate on a local machine.

The important changes to verify are:

  • Install works on machines with Java 9
  • Introduction of a modern Aggregate VM (ova)
    • Running Debian 9, Tomcat 8, PostgreSQL 9.6
  • View audit.csv file if attached to submissions (use this audit-test.xml form)
    • CSV has timestamps of user navigation through the form

If you have a bit more time, please also verify the other changes in the release notes. Again, this beta will ship in 1 week (March 26th) as a final release unless you report issues below.
