Potential Bug: When starting or ending a repeat group, ODK sometimes jumps to the very beginning or very end of survey

Hi,

When starting or ending a repeat group, ODK sometimes jumps to the very
beginning or very end of survey (this also happens sometimes when after a
force close, surveyors long press the home button, select ODK out of recent
apps, fill blank form, choose appropriate survey, and try to scroll down to
the question they had been trying to enter when the force close happened).

I've had this issue with a few variations of my survey and on multiple
devices (LG E720s with 150MB RAM & 2GB SD Card, Galaxy Tab with 516MB RAM
& 8 GB SD Card, Galaxy Tab2 with 1GB of RAM & 16GB SD Card). Is this a bug?
It could certainly be a coding error, but this happens even with a very
straight-forward repeat group of 4 questions with no constraint and no
relevant requirements.

We had this issue with 3 out of 45 PDAs we tested yesterday (running our
survey from start to finish). Another 13 of the PDAs had force closes
around these same repeat groups, but surveyors were able to get back to
their most recently-entered questions without problem. A further 3 had
force closes around these same repeat groups, but had to restart the PDAs
from scratch after trying the troubleshooting steps beginning with
long-pressing the home button (described above)-- then again, it's possible
these 3 surveyors made a mistake along the recovery steps (though they
insisted that they had followed the steps to the T) ...

Thanks for your thoughts on this,
Sam

I'm not sure what "restart the PDAs from scratch" means. However you
launch ODK Collect, if you Fill Blank Form and select the form that was
force-closed, it should reopen with the data from that form as it was last
saved. Whether this is via a long-press, or just a apps-list navigation is
irrelevant.

See http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/CollectTroubleshooting for
how to capture the application log off of the phone.

Only the last few 100 lines of log are captured (on 4.x devices many apps
doing background updates, this can be as short as a few seconds).

When you experience this problem, if you can immediately capture the log
and send it to me, I can look to see if there is something odd happening.

I suspect there is some error occurring deeper in the code that somehow
causes the jumping that you are observing.
