Syntax error in search() function - Pre-loading data from a csv

I used a search function e.g. search('cmis2014', 'matches', 'village',
${village}) which worked fine the first time. My latest revisions on the
same form without affecting the search function gives a runtime error
"Syntax error in search () function..." All these happen after I updated my
ODK Version currently to 1.4.3. I have even loaded the same example
provided in the opendatakit.org examples page
http://opendatakit.org/downloads/download-info/sample-searchandselect-form/ site
but get the same error (see image attached). Could the syntax have changed
for later versions or it is no longer supported.

Hi James,

I just tried the test form and it worked great for me with Collect
1.4.3 (r1042). Maybe try removing your /odk/.cache folder, reboot the
device, and try the test form again.

James,

Use adb or an on device app like OI File Manager. You'll have to show
hidden files since all files that start with . are automatically hidden.

James,

Something very strange would seem to be happening here -- particularly
since you said that this worked initially, then stopped working. Are you
very certain that you're re-testing with the sample you think you're
re-testing with? Be sure to delete the form from the server, delete it from
your phone, then check that you're using the same sample, upload it to the
server, download it to the phone, etc. Again, the fact that it worked at
one point suggests that it can work...

If all else fails, a capture of the Android log from the time of the error
would be helpful. If you're using a newer Android device, an app like
aLogCat may not work, but adb should always work as a tool to capture logs.
Apps like TeamViewer/QuickSupport can also be used for capturing logs.

Best,

Chris

Need ODK services? http://nafundi.com provides form design, server setup, professional support, and software development for ODK.

Yaw,

I did that but I still receive the same errors. I even uninstalled ODK Collect, deleted all the files and did a fresh installation (1.4.3 r1042) but this did not help. I believe I am doing the right thing but can't understand why I am receiving these errors. I have tried this in different phones but receive the same errors. I will really appreciate your help.

Best,
James.

James,

Use adb or an on device app like OI File Manager. You'll have to show hidden files since all files that start with . are automatically hidden.

Thanks Yaw,

How do I get the /odk/.cache folder? I tried to clear cache but did not help

James.

Hi James,

I just tried the test form and it worked great for me with Collect

1.4.3 (r1042). Maybe try removing your /odk/.cache folder, reboot the

device, and try the test form again.

Need ODK services? http://nafundi.com provides form design, server

setup, professional support, and software development for ODK.

I have even loaded the same example provided

in the opendatakit.org examples page site but get the same error (see image

attached). Could the syntax have changed for later versions or it is no

longer supported.

James Odede

Hi Yaw, Please, Looks like the link to the sample search and select form is unavailable. I will like to use the search and MATCH function in xls. Any new link the sample form?

This is what I'm trying to do. When a user enters their username, I will like the person to confirm by selecting their name. And I will want only their usernames showing by matching what they entered. I've tried this several times but not working I have attached test form with the search and match function under appearance column. And the csv from from which I'm trying the search and match. Any help.

pullingfromplatformnotworking.xlsx (51.8 KB)
user.csv (44 Bytes)

Great, I found the solution. I had missed a comma in my search function.
